Location
Elly-Heuss-Gymnasium is situated close to downtown Weiden, at the end of Weigelstraße, about 200 metres behind the new town hall. The main bus terminal and railroad station are conveniently located only 3 minutes and 15 minutes away respectively by foot. The majority of our pupils come from Weiden and the neighbouring counties of Neustadt a.d.Waldnaab, Tirschenreuth, Schwandorf and Amberg/Sulzbach therefore our central location is ideal. Some Facts
Elly-Heuss-Gymnasium (EHG) is a state grammar school for girls. It has three study branches that focus on languages, social studies or economics. This year there are more than 700 pupils that are being taught by roughly 60 teachers. EHG dates back to the early 20th century, when girls of this region were given a better chance to learn by having a school of their own. We still feel committed to this original objective; we have improved on it and face each challenge as it comes and continue to see new opportunities. EHG has many unique features, including our special offers for all-day tutoring for grades 5-8, the new integrated all-day class for grade 5 and our popular “Elly-canteen”.
Our Aims
A typical school day deals with subjects and challenges which are common of a grammar school. Our task is to provide girls and young women with the competence to deal with mathematical, science and technological studies as well as professions. To balance the program we emphasize social learning and education in aesthetics and music. Our goal is to foster the development of each of our pupils to become an interested, reliable, open-minded and successful person. The Abitur (final exam) should enable our students to successfully deal with any university program and to be self-confident and sensible in everyday life.
